LOCAL AREA NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

LOCATED IN MUNICH (GERMANY)Key Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Ensure the smooth and reliable daily operation of the LAN by constantly monitoringsystem performance and executing tuning measures.
2. Implementation support, configuration and administration of hardware and systemsoftware, for LAN Systems to ensure optimal support of business requirements.
3. Perform system maintenance, installation, modification and upgrades to the LANhardware to ensure hardware and software compatibility between LAN and WAN(Wide Area Network) and maintain the information system configuration controldata base for the Agency's LAN systems.
4. Provide in depth support for the LAN systems and assist in related procurementactivities (hardware, system software and maintenance contracts specification andrecommendation).
5. Provide adequate resilience of Local Area Networks services, in accordance withthe respective SLAs, including the development and maintenance of recovery andfallback arrangements.
6. Performing proactive management, performance evaluation, system analysis, faultand problem investigation, corrective measures and documentation of activities(e.g. system availability report) related to the Local Area Networks.
7. Configuration and administration of the passive components within the LAN, e.g.horizontal and vertical structured cabling, patch panels on each floor, sockets ineach room and the corresponding patch cords.
8. Configuration and administration and maintenance of the active components withinthe LAN, e.g. Hubs, Switches.
9. Assist in maintaining the compatibility of hardware systems at all levels (UNIX andWINDOWS servers, e-mail gateways, WAN, LAN, UNIX workstations, PCs, etc).
10. Producing processes and quality procedures related to the Local Area Networks:producing and maintaining the LAN systems documentation. Proposing changes toexisting policies and procedures regarding the Local Area Networks.
11. Focal point of the Agency for distribution and administration of NETMA IPaddresses.
12. Liase with other teams and administrators within the CIS Operations Section insupport of the above mentioned tasks.
13. Administration and operation of all necessary utilities (including SW and HW) tooperate the LAN Systems.
14. Participating in acceptance tests of relevant software and hardware devices andassisting in the integration and testing of interoperability with the other ICTsystems within his area of responsibility.
15. Undertake any other related tasks or duties as directed by the Team leader andco-operate with the Network / PC Systems Administrator and the NWSC.Personal Skills, Qualifications and Experience RequiredAn Information Technology specialist with the following qualification and experience:Essential
16. A university degree in Computer / Communication Systems or another closelyrelated scientific field preferably equivalent to a Diploma or Bachelor andsupplemented by a relevant post-graduate qualification. Exceptionally, the lack of auniversity degree may be compensated by the demonstration of particular abilitiesof interest to the Agency.
17. Good working experience (at least 3 years) with• Administration of a LAN• LAN technologies and implementations, especially structured cableinstallations.• Knowledge of IP address management, static and dynamic assignment.
18. Knowledge of LAN management software.
19. Good knowledge in protocol analysis and troubleshooting.
20. Ability to effectively work in a team environment as well as independently
21. Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English language.Desirable
22. CCNA certification.
23. Knowledge of switching and routing concepts and adequate familiarity withrelevant communication standards (ISO/OSI, ITU, IEEE, IETF) and protocols(TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, etc.).
24. Basic knowledge of UNIX.
25. Basic knowledge of encryption technologies and cryptographic procedures.
